Abstract

This study evaluates infection prevention and control (IPC) practices across eight dialysis centres in Libya using a standardized electronic assessment tool developed by the National Center for Disease Control. Performance was assessed across 13 domains, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), aseptic technique, and dialysis water quality monitoring. Results demonstrated substantial variability, with overall IPC scores ranging from 46.2% (Misrata) to 91.4% (Al-Asaba and Tripoli). Key weaknesses were identified in water quality monitoring, medical waste management, and patient isolation practices. High-performing centers demonstrated strong compliance across most domains, suggesting the importance of leadership, training, and resource availability. The findings highlight critical gaps in IPC implementation and provide actionable recommendations for strengthening infection control systems in dialysis settings across Libya. This study offers valuable evidence for policymakers and international partners working to improve patient safety in resource-limited healthcare environments.
